A very cold and quiet morning along the St. Clair River. This 12 second exposure eliminated any ripples on the surface. The chunk of ice was a nice bonus. I have other shotz without ice. The morning light coloured the waters surface.
Pentax 6x7 90 mm velvia

Thanks for reminding me. I promise that tomorrow by noon, I will have some of the highlights from the year in my SCRAP pile. We had a spectacular year once again, capturing an honourable mention in Breckenridge, and a second place in Whitehorse in the Yukon Territories. See you tomorrow... honest!

Congrats! :handshake:
I would really like to try the ice-sculpting, but it is far from popular here in Serbia...
There are no competitions, not even exhibitions of such sorts...
Not even those small sculptures in restoraunts or gala receptions... //hint: maybe you could consider this a new market ;)//

Cannot wait to see the pics!

It is SNOW Sculpting that I participate in. Generally the blocks weight in at about 25 tonnes. A frame is made up and then the snow is loaded into the mould in 2 foot increments, and stomped on by volunteers to compress the snow. More is added, more stomping, and so on. The blocks in Breckenridge stand 14 feet tall, and 10 feet wide x 10 feet deep. The block in the Yukon was 12 feet wide, 10 feet tall and 8 feet. Each competition has it's own nuances, with the event in our nations capital having the biggest block that I have worked on. 16 feet tall, x 12 ft wide, 12 deep = 35 tonnes
Maybe you should consider sand sculpting. That is an event that is gathering world wide notoriety with competitions and symposiums going on all over the place. The one restriction to the art form is that it is nearly impossible to do any piece that has an overhang. So most pieces end up resembling pyramids, with extensive detailing carved into the whole surface. Very labour intensive (good) but with a growing list of fans. Please try looking into Google and type in sand sculpting. If you have no luck I will be try and pull in some contacts for you. There are several sculptors that I know of who compete in both disciplines.
You may have just hit the nail on the head. And your tools will not be exotic...

Oops... my bad... I thought you were into ice-sculpting...
I've seen some majestic snow-sculptures, and some pretty complicated shapes/objects...
How long does it take to make one?

As for the sand sculpting, there's not much sand here to begin with lol =D... we have snow, but the snow sculpting is not very popular here... My friend and I did a sand sculpture once, when we were on vacation...
We started out of boredom, but after a half an hour or soo it took some heat, and we just couldn't stop...
Soon we acquired sprinkler and added a lot of detail... we made a girl, lying on the towel, topless...
We made her panties and towel out of multicoloured pebbles and sea shells...
It turned out really well, and lot of people came to take picture with it, and thought we were pro-s lol =D
But, somebody destroyed it over the night :hmm:

Meh... nevermind that... I'm waiting for your pictures :)
