What a crazy fall this one has been. Super productive, I have been surprised by the number of pictures in general that I managed to create, and a pretty consistent approach.
One of the biggest motivations that onyone could have dreamed of, was that I have been approached by a Design firm from the west coast, and asked to be a contributing photographer for their design team.
I WILL START BY WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY NEW YEAR, AND HOPE EVERYBODY HAS A REALLY PRODUCTIVE AND HEALTHY YEAR.
MY JOURNAL WAS VERY OLD AND REALLY DATED, SO HERE ARE SOME UPDATES.
SOLD TWO PICTURES THROUGH FARMBOY FINE ARTS, TO A HOTEL IN CALIFORNIA. MY FIRST SALES WITH THE ORGANIZATION AND ONE I AM VERY PROUD OF. I HAVE JUST SUBMITTED 4 SEPERATE PORTFOLIOS TO A MAGAZINE FOR CONSIDERATION. IT WAS A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE TO ACTUALLY WADE THROUGH THE YEARS WORTH OF IMAGES, AND COME UP WITH A COHESIVE BODY OF WORK. IN THE END, I HOPE TO GET AT LEAST ONE OF THEM PUBLISHED.
MY FALL, BETWEEN CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS, WHICH RESULTED IN MY GETTING A DOZEN STITCHES IN MY KNEE IS CAUSING ME MORE PROBLEMS. PAIN, INFECTION, THE REMOVAL OF THE STITCHES 10 DAYS IN ADVANCE, SO THE WOUND CAN DRAIN, BLAH BLAH. AND THE FACT THAT SCULPTING USUALLY REQUIRES ME TO SPEND HOURS ON MY KNEES IN THE FREEZING COLD. ( I FOR THE RECORD, DO NOT GET COLD, BUT IT CANNOT HELP MY SITUATION)
AND ALL OF THIS ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM A MAJOR SNOW SCULPTING COMPETITION IN COLORADO. MY FINGERS ARE CROSSED. I HAVE POSTED A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF THE 12 FOOT TALL PROJECT TO THE LEFT HERE. TODAY, I AM GOING TO EMPTY HER MEMORIES, AND PUT AN UPDATED CONFIGURATION IN THERE. ONE THAT WILL BE A LITTLE MORE LOGICAL, A LITTLE MORE REALISTIC SCALE WISE. THAT DOES NOT MEAN I AM MAKING IT EASIER TO CARVE. JUST EASIER TO BELIEVE. MT. FUJI WILL BE MORE 3 DIMENSIONAL, NOT JUST A RELIEF CARVING. AN ARCHITECTURALLY CORRECT PAGODA WILL REPLACE THE BONZAI TREE AS THE MAIN FOCAL POINT, ALSO BRINGING THE SCALE DOWN FROM MT. FUJI. AND THEN TO BRING THE SCALE DOWN ANOTHER NOTCH, THE BRIDGE AND BONZAI GARDEN WILL BE DONE IN MORE OF A MINIATURE STYLE, CLOSER TO THE ENDS OF THE SCARF.
SO WE STILL HAVE OUR WORK CUT OUT FOR US. TOOLS ARE BEING SHARPENED, ETC, PLANS ARE MADE. I MUST GET HEALTHY.
I HAVE NOT BEEN THROWING MUCH TIME AT PHOTOGRAPHY. BUT EACH TIME I DO AN UPDATE, THERE ARE FRESH IMAGES THAT I SOMEHOW SQUEEZE IN TO MY SCHEDULE, OR MAKE ROOM FOR.
THANKS FOR COMMENTING ON MY WORK, IT IS TRULY APPRECIATED. AND YES, I USE THAT STATEMENT ALOT, BUT ... IT IS TRUE. AND I ALSO DO NOT MAKE ENOUGH TIME TO RESP[OND TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT CONTACT ME. I WILL DO BETTER.
OK NOW THAT I STARTED THIS, I HAVE TO MOVE ONTO SOMETHING ELSE.
UNTIL LATER, DOUG

Happy New Year Everybody
What a powerful way to wrap up my 2013. Probably the toughest year I have gone through with regards to changing careers, and dragging my ass back up out of the basement…
My Photography has always been the one powerful strong spot that I never have to worry about. The creative thing just happens, then I have to figure out how to make it happen.
Internationally, my work is becoming more popular, and personally, I still consider myself to be on a 3 year hot-streak. Lots of progress and plans / ideas on the active burner.
I am still thankful that I came across this site 8 years ago. Still, the instant response to Submitted images, from a
10 more views and its 33,000 page views
I was just sniffing through some of the stats, and noticed that The Pillar, is almost at 33 grand page views. 2 years now since it was taken, it sure set me off on a tear. That picture started a lot of others...
Cheers, and Thanks to everybody who is looking, watching etc.

Greetings to any and all that take the the time to read this. I truly appreciate all of the Favs-watches-Collections and Critters that I have received from my fellow members. I am still balancing on that line between Hobby and Career. Shooting at a pro level and being able to pay bills and commitments sometimes seem like two different unrelated world's. With that said, I am committed towards my application to the Magnum Photo agency. Based largely on my body of lifetime work, and the ways that I do and have responded to new environments. Plain and simple. And that is what I am planning out for my summer. A challenge so to speak, to myself,
struck by lightning. not quite
But I have just been notified that I will be having two more images published in a special edition of B&W PHOTOGRAPHY. Next month is the release of their Single Image Edition and I will have two unrelated images in the glossy magazine.
The response from the public to the Color Portfolio edition was great, lots of compliments on my featured "water drops" and even some printing requests from afar.
So that is the kind of feedback we all look forward to.
And with that said, the last couple of submissions I have made to magazines/contests, I have broken the tradition of submitting my old favourites, you know the ones that should be published,

Congrats on selling some of your work. Sorry to hear about your knee, hopefully you recover quickly.
We need to chat when you get back from Colorado. I bought myself some new toys for Christmas. Canon 7D body, 28" softbox, 60" umbrella and a stand. Need to pick your brain for a bit
